Musikalishe Exequien: Music by Schutz, Schein, Bach and Praetorius

Leicestershire Chorale, conducted by Tom Williams
In this performance they are joined by continuo players and the period brass quartet Il Nuovo Chiaroscuro

The Peter Crump Concert

The widely-travelled early baroque composer Heinrich Schutz, composed his beautiful cantata Musikalische Exequien - divided into different movements for choir and soloists - for the funeral service of a German Count. In this performance we are joined by continuo players and the period brass quartet Il Nuovo Chiaroscuro. To complete the programme, we include movements from Schein's set of Lenten Lamentations Israelis Brunnlein, music by an earlier German composer Hieronymous Praetorius and J.S. Bach's two great motets Der Geist Hilft and Komm Jesu, Komm.

Leicestershire Chorale is a chamber choir of about 40 voices which performs regularly with orchestras in Leicestershire and beyond. Generous sponsors and patrons make possible this valuable extra dimension to our concerts. Main concerts are usually performed in Leicester but recitals, including some lighter music, are given throughout the county in country houses and village churches.

Leicestershire Chorale has been acclaimed by music critics as one of the region's leading amateur choirs. It performs a wide range of choral music by composers from the 15th to the 21st centuries. Outreach projects include workshops for members of the public and special choral events for school students (complementing our YouthFindAVoice project).
